Potain Tower Cranes

We are pleased to announce the addition of seven (7) Potain Tower Cranes:

3 – Flat Top Potain MDT-178 Tower Cranes – Data Sheet
4 – Top Slewing Potain MD-485B Tower Cranes – Data Sheet

These cranes are brand new and are available to rent immediately, they are supported by Manitowoc Cranes USA.

The MDT 178 is an eight (8) metric ton crane giving you a maximum rated capacity of 17,637 pounds. The 178 can be erected to a vertical freestanding height of 176 feet using standard mast and can be fitted with 197 feet of horizontal jib with a rated capacity at jib tip of 3307 pounds.

The Potain MD-485-B is a twenty (20) metric ton crane giving you a maximum rated capacity of 44,092 pounds. The 485 can be erected to a vertical freestanding height of 247 feet and can be fitted with 262 feet of horizontal jib with a rated capacity at the jib tip of 6,834 pounds.

Both the MDT 178 and MD485-B incorporates many design features which makes the cranes very erector friendly. The MDT 178 crane can be used with a portable concrete ballasted base or it can be mounted in a traditional concrete foundation. The ballasted base can be as small as 12’ 6” square. The vertical mast of the crane is a smaller version of the “K” mast that is used for the larger top slewing tower cranes. The beauty of this mast is that it uses pinned connections instead of bolted connections. Pinned connections are much quicker to assemble and are maintenance free.

The turntable, cab and electrical control panel is designed to be one (1) pick, and weighs just over 11,000 pounds, making what is normally the critical pick in the erection/dismantle process very simple. The upper portion of the crane goes together very easily due to the lack of a tower top and pendant bars which support the jib and counter-jib. The counter-jib is attached with two (2) pins and the jib is attached with one (1) pin. And to make things even easier, because the hoist drum is located in the foot of the jib, it can be reeved on the ground before the jib is lifted into place.

Once up and operational the operator will love what is being called the nicest cab available on tower cranes today.  The cab is also very large with ergonomic seating and controls and computerized indicators to aid the operator. One more thing that both the operator will appreciate is the variable frequency motors controlling the hoist, swing and trolley functions.

Both Potain cranes are unique, extremely versatile, easy to assemble, low maintenance and operator friendly lifting solution for your medium to large sized construction projects.
